Bobby Friction is an internationally known broadcaster, DJ, journalist and curator. He launched his DJ career at Swaraj, where he was one of the original resident DJs between 1997 and 1999.

Throughout his career, Bobby has represented the British Asian sound around the world from Asia to the US, the Middle East and across Europe.

His standout DJ gigs include his headlining set at his own outdoor New Year’s Eve party in Bangalore in front of ten thousand people, WOMAD festival in the UK and Singapore, World Music Festival in Chicago, and Burning Man festival in Black Rock Desert, Nevada. He has performed regularly in San Francisco and Los Angeles and is a frequent performer on the European festival circuit, performing at the Glastonbury festival on ten occasions.

Bobby’s groundbreaking work includes spearheading a mission for a dedicated South Asian music stage to be part of Glastonbury for the first time. This came to fruition in 2024, receiving massive press coverage at the time. The feat was repeated in 2025.

Bobby is a unique music professional who has achieved legendary status within the Desi Music scene. He is a lover and fighter for British Asian music and Desi Beats worldwide, as well as being a brilliant and gifted documentary maker. But first and foremost, he is and will always be, a massive fan of music!
